Support the Community
Skate the Lake is organized to identify a location, a design, a construction company and to raise the funds to develop a Skate Park in the City of Greers Ferry, Arkansas.
The Board of Skate the Lake founded and formed by women, has identified a need for an activity for those students and community members who are not involved in the local school team sports of Baseball, Basketball, Softball, Tennis and Golf. The intent is to provide a positive activity that is an alternative these organized team sports or other school activities such as band and theater.
Greers Ferry, and the surrounding community, is in a rural area, with a small population and lacks other activities outside of organized team sports and School activities for the area youth who do not have the requisite desire, ability or talent to be included in these pursuits. Many times these youth fall into the “wrong crowd” and become involved with substance abuse – prescription drugs, alcohol and illegal drugs. The Skate Park is designed to appeal to these youth, and community members, by offering a pursuit that will be free of admission charge, fun, a healthy outdoor activity, challenging, build confidence and to create a sense of community with like-minded Skate enthusiasts.
The Skate Park will be designed for Skaters of all abilities and for Skateboards, Inline skates, roller blades, scooters and BMX bikes.
Skateboarding is now recognized as an Olympic sport and is part of school sports programs throughout the country. Learn more about the collegiate opportunities here:
